BACKGROUND STORY
"Ready to descend, Solomon?"
Solomon.
The name originated from the Hebrew name Shelomoh, which was derived from the Hebrew word shalom, meaning peace - but this wasn’t the reason why Solomon was bestowed upon me by my parents.
Solomon for me is a sea in the southwestern tropical Pacific that lies on the pathway of a major oceanic circuit connecting the subtropics to the equator via energetic western boundary currents. According to history, the first European to come to Solomon Islands in 1568 gave the archipelago its name because he believed this area of the South Pacific was where King Solomon obtained the gold he used to build the Temple of Jerusalem.
But it wasn't because of King Solomon’s gold that I was given the name, either. It was all down to Solomon - the sea - and my oceanographer father's overwhelming fascination towards it.
So I was brought into the world, a boy with an eternal adoration for the ocean and everything that it has to offer.
The sound of the seagulls caught my attention and I was swiftly brought back to reality. My buddy and the rest of the crews are on stand-by waiting for my confirmation.
